Allendale's 2026 Fall Calendar Runs On Two Saturdays, Not Two Months

July 23, 2026

If you have lived in Allendale for a few summers, you know the rhythm. Crestwood on Wednesdays, the Celery Farm before dinner, the Fourth of July at South Beach, then a quiet stretch until Allendale Day closes the season. That is the shape most years take.

2026 is not shaped that way. The borough's Semiquincentennial programming, the rescheduled Holiday Observer Fireworks, and the borough's own Allendale Day have collapsed the fall calendar into two Saturdays that sit exactly a week apart. If you plan around them, the rest of the summer reads differently.

The Two Saturdays That Redraw September

The first is Saturday, September 19. The borough is running the Allendale Salutes 250th Parade that morning, with the Holiday Observers USA 250th Anniversary Party the same day and a Semiquincentennial Celebration at The Fields at the Red Barn beginning at 1:00 PM. Three separate organizers, one date, one town.

The second is Saturday, September 26. Allendale Day is on that day as usual. What is new is that the Holiday Observer Fireworks, originally scheduled earlier, have been officially rescheduled to September 26 as well. Fireworks and Allendale Day now share a Saturday for the first time in recent memory.

Here is the compressed view:

Date Event Where
Sat, Sep 5 Holiday Observers' Water Festival Allendale
Sat, Sep 19 Allendale Salutes 250th Parade Downtown route
Sat, Sep 19 Semiquincentennial Celebration The Fields at the Red Barn, 1:00 PM
Sat, Sep 19 Holiday Observers USA 250th Party Allendale
Sat, Sep 26 Allendale Day Downtown
Sat, Sep 26 Holiday Observer Fireworks (rescheduled) Allendale
Wed, Sep 30 The Beat of America: Songs of Patriotism, Praise & Protest Allendale

Two of those Saturdays carry the weight the borough normally spreads across five or six weekends. If you have out-of-town guests coming for fall foliage, the calendar has already picked your dates for you.

What Fills The Six Weeks Before

Late July and August are quieter, which is the point. The borough's July newsletter lists an Outdoor Family Movie Night showing Toy Story on July 22, followed by the Gary Letizia Blood Drive on July 31. August anchors on The Beat of America: Early American Chamber Music Concert on August 10, which is the first of the two 250th-themed concerts. The September 30 concert closes the bracket.

Read together, those four dates are not a random summer roster. They are the runway into September 19. The chamber concert in August primes the same 250th theme the parade builds around. The movie night and blood drive fill the weeknight slots that would otherwise be empty. If you were wondering why the borough's July issue of the Allendale Happenings newsletter felt heavier than usual, that is why.

The Weekly Beat You Keep If You Live Here

None of the above cancels the ordinary summer. Crestwood Lake at 300 West Crescent Avenue is still running the free lakeside concert series from 7:00 to 10:00 PM, and the borough is bringing back the Crestwood Folk Fest. The 2026 slate is:

  • Leo Sawikin
  • Sean Kiely
  • NOHA
  • Back Train
  • Mike Slamer

Food comes from the Crestwood Lake snack stand. Skye Lark played the series on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 7:00 PM. If you have not been down since last summer, the setup rewards regulars: the same shoreline patches fill first each week, and the routine becomes the reason to go.

The other free anchor is the Celery Farm. The preserve is a 107-acre freshwater wetland with more than 248 recorded bird species, three observation platforms, and a 1.2-mile loop that most walkers finish in about 21 minutes. Two entrances, one on Franklin Turnpike and an alternate on Green Way. Volunteers from the Fyke Nature Association built the boardwalks, the benches, the nest boxes, the tree swallow tubes at Lake Appert, and the wood duck boxes near the water lines. That is why the place reads differently from a Bergen County park. It has the feel of somewhere people show up for on Saturdays, because it is.

A few practical notes that catch new residents off guard:

  • Dogs are not permitted, and neither is fishing, boating, feeding wildlife, or flying drones.
  • Parking is small. On a nice Saturday morning, go early or plan for street parking.
  • There are no restrooms on site. The nearest one is the Dunkin' on West Allendale Avenue, a short drive south on Franklin Turnpike.
  • Spring paths get muddy. Long pants and closed shoes in warmer months, because poison ivy is present.

Between Crestwood and the Celery Farm you have a swimmable lake and a working nature preserve about three-quarters of a mile from a downtown that happens to hold more sit-down restaurants than most Bergen boroughs its size. That is unusual, and it is the reason a Wednesday night in Allendale does not feel like a Wednesday night in most of the county.

The Downtown That Absorbs The Crowd After

A parade and a fireworks show both end somewhere. In Allendale, they end on West Allendale Avenue.

Ninety years of the same address on West Allendale Avenue is a data point worth sitting with when the debate about chain saturation in Bergen County downtowns comes up.

That address is 67 West Allendale Avenue, and the business is the Allendale Bar & Grill. The Chamber of Commerce is publicly marking the AB&G's 90th anniversary in 2026, since 1935, alongside the tenth for LB Designs and the seventh for CKO Kickboxing Allendale. Three anniversaries in one year, one of them older than most of the shopping the borough is known for.

The rest of the sit-down row does the volume work on parade Saturday and Allendale Day. Fino Ristorante at 114 West Allendale Avenue runs Northern Italian and is BYOB. Mezzaluna Bistro at 96 West Allendale Avenue holds the Italian and Continental end. Savini at 168 West Crescent Avenue keeps a full bar and lunch service Monday through Friday. Village Pizza at 35 West Allendale Avenue has been family-run since 1997 and still fires wood pizza. Allendale Steakhouse is BYOB and dry-ages its prime steaks in house for 35 days. Allendale Social at 9 Franklin Turnpike, from the team behind Uno Mas, runs Chef Joey Sergentakis' New American menu with live music on weekends.

Six kitchens inside a walkable radius. On September 26, when Allendale Day and the fireworks land on the same Saturday, that math matters.

What Changed Behind The Scenes This Year

Two smaller items are worth flagging because they show up in daily life more than a parade date does.

The Borough of Allendale rolled out a Shared Service Dispatch Agreement with the Ramsey Police Department, effective March 16, 2026. If you have called the non-emergency line since spring and the routing felt different, that is why. In the same window, the Allendale Borough Council meeting on March 26, 2026 recognized the police department's role in the borough being cited among the top 10 safest cities in the United States.

At Allendale Town Center, Azarian Realty recently signed two new leases, both to medical users, including Bergen County Pediatric Dentistry taking a 2,270-square-foot first-in-state location. Whether that reads as an improvement to the block depends on what you wanted from it. It is the current direction of the tenant mix, and it is a useful counterweight to the story that downtown is standing still.

Planning Around The Two Saturdays

If you are a homeowner here, the practical version of all this is short.

  • If you host in the fall, pick the weekend of September 19 or September 26 and pick early. Bergen visitors who come up for one will not want to come back the next weekend for the other.
  • If you have small kids, September 26 is the bigger day. Allendale Day plus the rescheduled fireworks in one Saturday.
  • If you want the 250th programming without the parade crowds, the August 10 and September 30 Beat of America chamber concerts carry the same theme in a quieter room.
  • If you have not walked the Celery Farm loop since last fall, the migration window in September is the reason to go. Bring binoculars, leave the dog.

Allendale is not adding events in 2026. It is stacking the ones it already had. Once you see the calendar that way, the summer stops looking like a slow build to Allendale Day and starts looking like a two-weekend event with a long, quiet approach.

If you are thinking about how a move within Allendale or into the borough would fit around a fall like this one, the team at The Doreen Realty Group knows the block-by-block texture of West Crescent, Franklin Turnpike, and the streets that feed the Celery Farm entrances.
